It\u2019s one of those documents that\u2019s simply better to sort out in advance, rather than wasting time and nerves at the border. <\/p><p class=\"p1\">In this article, we show you how to buy vehicle insurance using the UAE Aber app.<\/p><p class=\"p1\">We completed this journey as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/warsawtravelers.pl\/en\/desert-horizons-2025\/\">\ud83c\udfcd\ufe0f Desert Horizons<\/a> project &#8211; a ride from \ud83c\uddf5\ud83c\uddf1 Poland all the way to \ud83c\uddf4\ud83c\uddf2 Oman on our own motorcycle, along with the full \u201coverland\u201d package of paperwork along the way. The UAE was an important stop for us, as it\u2019s where we planned to ship the motorcycle back to Europe. <\/p><p class=\"p1\">We\u2019ve been to the UAE several times already, so along the way we\u2019ve gathered plenty of practical, real-world insights. Without a valid policy, you can be turned away at the border, and you\u2019re simply not allowed to drive around the UAE without third-party liability insurance. <\/p><p class=\"p1\">First: entering the UAE by land. For cars and motorcycles on foreign license plates, insurance is required at selected border crossings. The ICP (Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security) <g id=\"gid_0\">introduced a mandatory insurance requirement<\/g> for foreign vehicles entering the UAE by land, including crossings such as Al Ghuwaifat, and travelers must present proof of insurance at the border.   <\/p><p class=\"p1\">Second: driving within the U<a href=\"https:\/\/warsawtravelers.pl\/en\/tag\/uae\/\">A<\/a>E itself. The absolute minimum required is third-party liability insurance, equivalent to standard civil liability cover. The service was promoted by the government as a \u201csmart insurance service\u201d, allowing travelers to buy a policy online before reaching the border and avoid waiting in line at insurance booths. <\/p><p class=\"p1\">In practice, you have two options:<\/p><ul><li class=\"p1\">\ud83d\udec3 traditionally on site (at the border, at the insurance window\/booth, if available),<\/li><li class=\"p1\">\ud83d\udcf1 or earlier in the app, and at the crossing you show the ready policy\/QR code on your phone<\/li><\/ul><p class=\"p1\">Most importantly, the app works only at selected border crossings. That\u2019s why, when choosing your vehicle type, you\u2019ll see a list of supported entry points. Below is a short \u201cwhat\u2019s where\u201d overview to make it easier to place everything on the map.  <\/p><p class=\"p1\">Border crossings supported in the application:<\/p><ol><li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/QyjAzE3jupkfaiXt9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Al Ghuwaifat \u2013 Al Batha (\ud83c\udde6\ud83c\uddea UAE \u2194 \ud83c\uddf8\ud83c\udde6 Saudi Arabia):<\/a> This is the main border crossing on the western side of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (Al Dhafrah region), near Al Silaa. It\u2019s typically reached via a long drive along the E11 highway, the main route connecting Abu Dhabi and Dubai with the western border. <\/li><li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/XZNgNAGyoK1qZZda9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hili (near \ud83c\udde6\ud83c\uddea Al Ain \u2194 Al Buraimi, \ud83c\uddf4\ud83c\uddf2 Oman)<\/a>: Hili is located in the Al Ain area, with Al Buraimi on the Omani side of the border. It\u2019s a popular crossing for local traffic between Al Ain and northern Oman. Entry here is generally restricted to holders of GCC-issued passports.  <\/li><li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/2fpzfn79appByXhv5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Khatm Al Shikla (\ud83c\udde6\ud83c\uddea Al Ain \u2194 \ud83c\uddf4\ud83c\uddf2 Oman)<\/a>: Another Al Ain\u2013area border crossing. It\u2019s often used if you\u2019re heading toward Al Buraimi\/Sohar, or continuing farther in the direction of Muscat. One easy landmark nearby is Al Ain Raceway, which makes it simple to spot on the map. This crossing generally accepts all passport nationalities.    <\/li><li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/YZhczHypHWuDH6849\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Al Mudeef (south of \ud83c\udde6\ud83c\uddea Al Ain \u2194 \ud83c\uddf4\ud83c\uddf2 Oman)<\/a>: From the UAE side, this border crossing lies south of Al Ain. Similar to Hili, entry here is generally restricted to holders of passports issued by GCC countries. <\/li><li class=\"p1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/U8zvYPjjGd9SsfUr9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mezyad (southeast of \ud83c\udde6\ud83c\uddea Al Ain \u2194 \ud83c\uddf4\ud83c\uddf2 Oman)<\/a>: This border crossing is located southeast of Al Ain. It\u2019s often a good option if you\u2019re heading deeper into Oman, for example toward Nizwa or Jebel Akhdar, rather than just making a short hop to Al Buraimi. <\/li><\/ol><p class=\"p1\">In our case, when we were driving from Oman to Dubai via the <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/DnpbumjSujaQLTvC7\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Al Hafyah crossing near Kalba<\/a>, the border officers seemed genuinely surprised by the app, almost as if they were seeing it for the first time. Technically, this route \u201cshouldn\u2019t\u201d have worked with the app, and yet we were still allowed to enter. <\/p><p class=\"p1\">But keep in mind\u2014this is not advice to \u201cdo the same\u201d or play dumb. Rules can change, and a lot depends on the day, the officers on duty, and how their systems handle vehicles registered outside the region. In our case it even turned a bit surreal: our motorcycle didn\u2019t have a full license plate number in the system, just \u201c81\u201d. So yeah\u2026 welcome to the wild west of paperwork. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-180d881 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"180d881\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2><b>How to purchase insurance in the UAE Aber app<\/b><\/h2><p class=\"p1\">You can get it done in just a few minutes, and you don\u2019t need to be a pro at setting up accounts in government apps to make it through the process. Simply put: both options provide normal insurance coverage. The difference lies in how they\u2019re structured behind the scenes, not in whether you pay a premium\u2014because you do in both cases.  <\/p><ul><li class=\"p1\">Non-Takaful is standard, conventional insurance: you pay a premium to the insurance company, and the company takes on the risk. If a claim occurs, the payout comes directly from the insurer, according to the policy terms. <\/li><li class=\"p1\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/t\/takaful.asp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Takaful<\/a><\/strong> works more like a shared fund: many drivers contribute money to a common pool, which is then used to cover claims made by participants.
