In this article, we’ll show you the must-see attractions in Hatta and how to plan your trip for the best experience.

Ready? Let’s get started! 🚗💨

How to get to Hatta?

Hatta is a picturesque enclave nestled in the Al-Hajar Mountains, approximately 115 km east of Dubai. Thanks to its unique location and cooler climate, it has become a popular retreat for both residents and tourists.

Car

The most convenient way to reach Hatta is by car. The drive from Dubai takes approximately 1.5 hours, offering scenic views and well-maintained roads along the way.

Public transport

For those who prefer public transportation, the RTA Hatta Express bus (H02 line) is available, running from Dubai Mall to the main bus station in Hatta. The journey takes approximately 1.5 hours, with a fare of 25 AED, payable via the Nol card. From the main station in Hatta, you can use the H204 “Hop On and Off” line, which stops at the region’s main tourist attractions.

Hatta Dam

Hatta Dam is one of those places that captivates with its simplicity and picturesque location. Surrounded by the majestic Hajar Mountains, the views here are truly exceptional. It’s the perfect spot for those seeking a moment of tranquility, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

When I visited this place during the pandemic, I was captivated by its silence and vastness. That’s why, during our 2023 trip, I just had to show it to Jadzia. Without a doubt – it was worth coming back! 😊

The dam offers free and spacious parking for visitors arriving by car. From there, you need to climb a few steps leading to the top of the dam. It’s not too challenging, and the view that awaits at the top makes every step worth it.

Hatta Heritage Village

Hatta Heritage Village is a place that takes visitors back in time, showcasing what life in the United Arab Emirates looked like before the oil boom and the rise of modern cities. Located in the heart of Hatta, this reconstructed traditional village offers a great opportunity to explore the history and culture of the region.

The village comprises a collection of restored buildings that once served as residential homes, watchtowers, and utility structures. Visitors can admire traditional architecture, including mud-brick walls characteristic of the region, as well as authentic artifacts of daily life, such as utensils, farming tools, and textiles.

Unfortunately, neither during my earlier visit during the pandemic nor now in 2023 were we able to visit this place – it was closed. However, based on reviews and photos from other travelers, it seems to be worth a visit. We hope that next time we can finally step inside and share our impressions with you.

Activities in Hatta

Hatta is a true paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Here, you’ll find everything – from cycling adventures and mountain hikes to peaceful kayaking on the lake. Moreover, in recent years, the town has made significant strides in developing infrastructure for active travelers.

Bicycles and e-scooters from Lime

If you enjoy exploring on the move, here’s some good news! Hatta offers rental stations for bicycles and electric scooters from Lime. Thanks to its collaboration with RTA, you can now rent equipment and set off on an adventure with ease. For more details, click here. 🌞

New cycling paths stretch over 13 kilometers, offering picturesque routes – from bridges near the lake to trails around Wadi Park. For those who like to pause and take a breather, new rest areas have also been introduced. The only thing to watch out for is network coverage – in some areas, the Lime app might struggle to connect. It’s a good idea to rent a bike in zones with reliable coverage beforehand!

Mountain hiking

Hatta offers numerous hiking trails of varying difficulty levels, suitable for both beginners and seasoned trekkers. These trails wind through the picturesque landscapes of the Hajar Mountains, providing spectacular views and a chance to connect with nature.

Canoeing and other activities

The lake created by the Hatta Dam offers opportunities for kayaking, allowing visitors to peacefully admire the surrounding mountains from the water. For thrill-seekers, activities like zip-lining and climbing walls are also available, adding a touch of adventure to the serene environment.
